Malaysian Recipe : Baked Crabs



  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp MSG
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp lard
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten


  • ½ lb minced pork, with some fat
  • ½ lb prawns, shelled, deveined and chopped finely
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs, soaked in 2 tbsp water
  • 8 medium sized fresh crabs, whole
  • Flour for dusting
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Breadcrumbs


  1. Steam the crabs, whole, over rapidly boiling water for 20 minutes. Do not remove lid while steaming. Cool. Remove meat and set aside the shells for stuffing.
  2. Mix A in a bowl.
  3. Add B and mix thoroughly. Add the crab meat and mix lightly.
  4. Dust crab shells with flour. Fill the shells with the crab meat mixture and grill or bake in a pre-heated oven at 190°C till cooked, about 30 to 45 minutes.
  5. Remove baked crabs from oven. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle on breadcrumbs. Return to oven for another 5 to 7 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
