Malaysian Recipe : Beef Sambal

Preparation time: 15 mins
Cooking time: 40 mins
Serves: 6

Ingredients:

  • 600 g tenderloin beef, sliced thinly
  • 5 pcs limau purut leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup oil

A: Ground to a paste

  • 150 g shallots
  • 6 candlenuts (buah keras)
  • 50 g dried chilies
  • 3 stalks lemon grass, crushed

Seasoning:

  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar

Directions:

  1. Marinate the meat with the ingredients A and set aside for an hour.
  2. Heat the oil and in a wok and brown the marinated beef. Cook until the mixture is dry and oily. Stir continuously.
  3. Add the limau purut leaves and seasoning. Stir till its well mixed.
  4. Dish and sprinkle on top with fried shallots. Serve with nasi minyak or ketupat.
  • Instead of beef, you may use any other meat of you choice, except fish.
