Malaysian Recipe : Sago Gula Melaka

Ingredients:

  • 100g sago pearls
  • 100g palm sugar
  • 100g sugar
  • 1 pandan leaf (Screwpine)
  • 1 litre water
  • 50ml thick coconut milk
  • Pinch salt

Garnish:

  • Watermelon, honey dew, mint etc, diced

Directions:

  1. Boil water in a pot. Add the sago pearls and stir occasionally to avoid clumping. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Turn off the flame and cover pan with lid. Set aside for 10 minutes, or until the sago pearls are translucent. Drain under flowing cold water. Set aside.
  2. Place the palm sugar, sugar, pandan leaf and water in a pan. Boil together until thick and syrupy. Cool.
  3. Mix the coconut milk with a pinch of salt.
  4. To serve, scoop the sago pearls into dessert bowls, add some coconut milk and sugar syrup. Top with the diced fruits and mint leaves.
