Tianqi is an important herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine owing to its ablilities to eliminate blood stasis, reduce swellings and pain, and stop bleeding. It is widely used in the treatment of traumatic injuries, various kinds of bleeding and in many emergencies.
Being one of the earliest herbs researched, Tianqi has been scientifically shown to be very effective in the treatment of heart diseases, particulary helpful in the problem of the narrowing of the arteries. It is also effective in lowering cholestrol and fat. Tianqi can be used as a tonic for convalescents and women after childbirth as it can activate circulation of blood and Qi, and restore energy levels. It also nourishes the blood and promotes metabolism in the elderly and weak. When children exhibit slow growth, some people give them Tianqi to speed up the growth process.
Ingredients:
- 300 gm spare ribs
- 12 dried longan
- ½ piece (about 10g) tian qi, crushed
- 800g boiling water
- 1 tbsp rice wine
- ½ tsp salt
Directions:
- Blanch spare ribs in boiling water for 5 minutes. Dish and rinse. Drain well.
- Put all ingredients into a double-boiler and double-boil at high heat for 3 hours. Add in rice wine and salt. Serve hot.
