Indian Recipe : Chakli

This recipe is from Maharashtra , India

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups raw rice
  • 2 cups chana dal (bengal gram - split)
  • ¾ cup urad dal (black gram - split)
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 2 tsp cooking oil
  • 1 tsp ajwain
  • 1 tsp til (gingelly) seeds

Directions:

  1. Dry roast the rice, chana dal (bengal gram - split), urad dal (black gram - split) and grind to a coarse powder. This is the chakli atta.
  2. Put all other ingredients in boiling water and while it is boiling add 4 cups of the chakli atta. Mix well. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  3. Mix well after cooling and put it in a chakli mold. Press small quantities through the mould into the hot oil and deep fry till golden brown. This can be kept in airtight containers for a few weeks.
