Indian Recipe : Prawn Malaikari

This is a recipe from Bengal, India.
Ingredients:
- 1 kg prawns
- 200 g onions
- 2-g garlic
- 30 g ginger
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 medium sized coconut (grated)
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 2 bay leaves
- 6 cloves
- 16 cardamoms
- 2 cups curds in 1 cup water
- 1 dalchini stick
- Oil or ghee for cooking
Directions:
- Extract milk from coconut and keep aside.
- Make a paste of onion, ginger, garlic, turmeric and chili powder in a grinder with a little water.
- Dry grind dalchini, colves and cardamoms (garam masala and set aside)
- Clean and devein prawns. Apply salt and a little turmeric. Keep aside.
- heat 200 g of oil or ghee or a mixture of both.
- Put in the bay leaves and then the prawns. Fry for a minute.
- Mix curds with ground paste. Stir fry the prawns with this mixture till oil separates.
- Add coconut milk and salt. Cook till a thick gravy forms.
- Remove from ire and garnish with dry ground masala. Serve hot.
